Halloween Popcorn Balls
I love having fun with food for the different holidays and I love making popcorn balls, so I combined my love of holidays and love of fun food to make these Halloween Popcorn Balls. Popcorn balls are the perfect combination of sweet and salty. The saltiness from the popcorn and then the sweetness from the marshmallow. They are always loved by my kids when I make marshmallow popcorn balls, no matter what the occasion.
My kids love these homemade popcorn balls over the store bought ones because they are not hard. They are soft due to the melted marshmallows that the popcorn is mixed with.

What is a popcorn ball?
A popcorn ball is popped popcorn, that is mixed with a melted marshmallow and butter mixture and shaped into balls. They are soft and chewy while being sweet and salty at the same time. You can add different mixins of candy to give extra flavors and easily whip them up as a last minute treat.

Variations of this recipe
Change up the color. I love the color purple at Halloween but you can also use green, orange or black food coloring to make these Halloween Popcorn Balls. You can add extra food coloring to make them brighter colors if you want to as well.
Change up the candy. I used Reese’s pieces but you can also use M&Ms, candy pumpkins, candy corn or any other candy that you want to.
Skip the food coloring. If you do not want to add food coloring to the popcorn balls you don’t have to. I just like to make them colorful.

What type of food coloring should I use?
I recommend using gel food coloring because it doesn’t add extra liquid to the mixture as liquid food coloring does. I also think you get brighter colors when you use gel food coloring.
Why aren’t my Popcorn balls sticking together?
When you are working with melted marshmallows it is kind of sticky and melty when it is warm. After the first forming of the popcorn ball, you might have to go back and shape them all again to get them to hold their shape better.

How Many Popcorn Balls does this recipe make?
I make 20 popcorn balls when I make this recipe, but you can make them bigger or smaller if you want to.
