Tips for Camping with Kids
Going camping with kids can be a bit stressful if you are just getting started. If you want your kids to learn about camping and enjoy camping with you these easy tips will help.
Camping can and is a lot of fun with the kids and something that makes a great summer activity to do as a family. Not only is camping fun but it is also a great budget friendly summer activity the whole family can enjoy.
Get the Kids Prepared
Start Slow. If you have never gone camping with kids before I suggest that you start slow. One night the first time and then go on to longer periods of time.
Bring the lovies. If the kids have blankets or stuffed animals they love be sure to bring them with you. Sleeping in a tent for the first time can be a little stressful for kids.
Dress kids in layers. It is easier to take things off when they get warm then not having enough layers.
Practice at home. If the kids are new to camping then setting the tent up and practicing camping in the back yard is a good way to get the kids started and used to sleeping in a tent or an rv.
Teach Kids camping safety ahead of time. Go over the rules of camping, how things work when they are camping and what you expect from them ahead of time. This way they too are informed about how camping works, especially if they are going camping for their first time.
Be Prepared for camping
Make sure you have all of your camping essentials. The more prepared you are the less stressful and more enjoyable camping will be.
Bring foods they like. Yes we want our kids to try new things, and you might plan on fishing or hunting for food while you are camping, but make sure you have food the kids like with you. Nothing worse then a kid who is hungry and grumpy and refusing to eat the food you have with you.
Bring Car boredom busters. If you have a drive to take to get to the campsite bring things for the kids to do in the car. Having them have fun from the start helps with the “are we there yet” questions. You can also use the same boredom busters for the car while you are camping.
Know that there will be downtime. When you are camping there will be times that you are not busy busy. When you have kids with you be sure to bring things for them to. Us adults may enjoy sitting quietly enjoying our surroundings, but that is something most kids have not found to enjoy as much as adults do. There are lots of things you can do to entertain kids when camping.
Involve the kids. Getting the kids involved will make it even more fun for them. They will enjoy it a lot more being involved in the different steps of planning a camping trip. It is important for kids to learn camping skills so they feel comfortable and enjoy the time.
