Equipment

  • Cookie Cutters
  • Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Oven
  • Spatula
  • Straw

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ground Cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups Unsweetened Applesauce
  • ¼- inch Wide Ribbon in Varying Colors

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add the cinnamon and the applesauce and stir the mixture to combine cinnamon and applesauce until it forms a thick dough.
  • Remove the dough and place it on a hard surface (counter top or table) and knead with your hands until the dough is fully formed.
  • Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon onto your work surface. Using a rolling pin roll the dough out to a 1/4 inch thickness.
  • Use cookie cutters of your choice to cut out ornaments in the shapes that you want to make.
  • If you have any leftover dough repeat the process and roll dough again and cut more shapes out with the cookie cutters.
  • Use a drinking straw and poke a small hole in the top of each ornament. (This is where you will string the ribbon when they are done)
  • Place the cinnamon handmade ornaments on to the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Smooth the rough edges of the ornaments if you want to, or you can leave them having a rustic look.
  • Bake the ornaments for two and a half hours.
  • Remove the ornaments from the oven and allow them to cool completely. You can place ornaments on to a wire rack to finish cooling if you want to.
  • Decorate with paint if desired or leave them as it.
  • Cut the ribbon and place it thru the hole at the top of the finished ornament and tie it in a knot.
