Have fun in the snow making a snow volcano! Just a few ingredients that you probably have on hand already is all that is needed to make a volcano in the snow.

Making a Snow Volcano
What should you do when mother nature gives you 2+ feet of snow? Have fun! Aside from the traditional building a snowman and mkaing snow angels there are lots of fun snow activities to do with kids.
The last 2 days we have been living in a snow wonderland and the kids made a snow fort, made snow angels and snowmen but I wanted to get some schooling in as well. So we made a snow volcano. It is so much easier and less clean up then making a traditional volcano project, so if making a volcano is on your school list wait till you have some snow!

Why Does Making a snow volcano work?
The snow volcano experiment demonstrates the classic chemical reaction between an acid and a carbonate When exposed to and acid the carbonate undergoes a reaction in which the gas carbon dioxide is released.
When you make a snow volcano, you are mixing an acid (the vinegar) and a base (baking soda) that produces a gas called carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is fizzy and bubbly on its own but when you add in the dish soap you get extra frothy bubbles which makes the kids love it even more.
You can do this easy science experiment with out using dish soap, but my kids like the extra bubbles that happen when using it.
