Grinch Butter Slime
The holiday season is here and that means it is time to make some fun slime. Of course in our house we make slime all the time but for the holidays we get all fancy and make holiday slime! Our most recent creation is this Grinch slime recipe.
We love the How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie and every year along with our religious themed Christmas activities we always have Grinch fun too including making our own Grinch slime. This fun slime starts with clear slime, then we add in some model magic to make it green and give it the perfect butter slime texture and then some heart confetti for the Grinch’s heart.

Because we are making this slime recipe for little kids to play with we do not use any liquid starch in this slime recipe. This green slime is one of my kids favorites and is perfect for when we are all in Mr. Grinch mode.
It is always a good time in our house when we are making slime and we love making this slime during the Christmas season along with many of the other Christmas kids activities that we make. If you are looking for more Christmas fun check out some of the things we do every year that the kids always love!

Why is butter Slime called butter slime?
While butter slime does not actually have butter in it. Butter slime gets its name because it is a smooth textured slime that has a buttery-like texture. Unlike traditional slime it doesn’t ooze like other slimes, instead it bends, molds and is a lot more fluffy then other types of slime.

How to Play with Butter slime
Butter Slime is so satisfying to play with! You can mold butter slime more then you can any other slime, but it is still slime and amazing. It is like running your fingers thru a squishy, but perfect pile of butter. Don’t worry, you will love it even if you think you won’t! There are lots of fun ways to play with it.
- Use a knife or your fingers to spread it
- make a slime bubble
- Squeeze it
- poke and knead it
- stretch it
- Shape it
- Make a poop swirl with slime – yes it sounds gross, but ask your slime loving kids how much fun they have making swirls with slime!

How to store Grinch Butter Slime
Butter slime needs to be stored in an airtight container. When stored properly it will last for about a week. You can also store it in a zip close plastic bag and squeeze the air out of it.
What kind of clay do you use for butter slime?
We find it best to use model magic when making butter slime with kids.
What is the best glue for slime?
The best glue to use when making slime is Elmer’s school glue. For this slime recipe we are using white school glue, but other recipes that we have use clear glue and we always suggest using Elmer’s glue as we find it is the best glue for slime making.

How do you know if slime is overactivated?
When you are making slime you need to use slime activators, for our recipe we use saline solution (other recipes for slime call for using borax or liquid starch but we prefer to use saline solution for our slime recipes). If you add too much saline solution then your slime will got from being slime like to very rubbery and break apart easily.
How do you fix a stiff butter slime?
If your butter slime is dry and stiff that does not mean that it is ruined. Add the slime to a small bowl and then add a little bit of water to the bowl and squish the slime with the water to add the water to the ball of slime and incorporate the water into the slime to bring it back to being stretchy and fun.
