Halloween is just around the corner, and you know what that means! It is time to make some spooky fun treats. I’ve got an easy recipe for MoonPie Witch Hats. These treats are perfect for school parties, office potlucks, get togethers, or even as a fun activity at home with the kids.

MoonPie Witch Hats
This amazingly fun Halloween Treat craft is something you are going to want to make year after year. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is regularly asked for. MoonPie Witch Hats are easy for you to make and so much fun for everyone to eat. As the kids take apart the witch’s hat, out comes the candies. Between the MoonPie, the chocolate covered sugar cone and the candies inside, this might be the most special Halloween treat you cna make.
What is a MoonPie
A MoonPie is a chocolate sandwich cookie with marshmallow filling. The biscuit dough consists of four ingredients, flour, brown sugar, butter, and cocoa. The vanilla cookie has a light brown crust that often resembles the color of moon.
While I am sure there are MoonPie recipes out there, I am using store bought MoonPies. This saves times and lets me get right to the good stuff.

Can I Use Regular Cones
I don’t recommend that you use regular cones. This is because those type of ice cream cones do not have the point on the end. It won’t give the look of the witch’s hat. For the best finished look, stick with sugar cones.
What Kind of Chocolate Chips Should I Use
I usually recommend using semi sweet or milk chocolate chocolate chips for projects like this. They are the easiest to work with and give the best flavor. You can actually use whatever kind you like however.
What Kind of M&Ms Should I Use for These Cookies
I am using Halloween M&Ms for the witch hat cookies. This is because I want to bring in those fun Halloween colors. If you can’t find them, you can use regular M&Ms. I would pick through the colors and find the bright colored candies instead of using the brown ones. However, if you want to skip sorting the chocolate covered candies, you can just pour the M&Ms straight into the cone.
Can I Use Full Size Candies inside my MoonPie Witch Hat
If you can not find mini M&Ms or you only have the full size on hand, you can use them. The best thing about the mini candies is that they fit better and you can get more inside. You can even use other candies if you wanted too. Reese’s Pieces will work and so will Skittles if that is what the kids like. Think about small round or round-ish candies that you know the kids will enjoy. Any type of candies like these will work in your Halloween treat.

How to Store These Witch Hat Treats
After the chocolate dries, you might have trouble keeping the kids from eating them all right then. If you are trying to save them for later or want to give them out as a Halloween treat, you will want to make sure to store them properly. I recommend keeping them wrapped well. You can wrap them in plastic, however, if you want a fun way to give these MoonPie Witch Hat treats in a Halloween bag, you can look for something like this. While I usually like to give treats ina. see-through bag so that you can see it, these witch hats are larger than my normal treats.

How to Make MoonPie Witches Hat Halloween Treats
In a small bowl Place one cup of chocolate chips and add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil.
Microwave for 20-30 seconds. Mix and repeat this process until fully melted with a smooth texture. Or you can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate.

Fill the sugar cone with M&Ms and use the paintbrush to brush a layer of chocolate around the top edge so the cone will stick to the moonpie.
Place the moon pie on top and carefully flip the hat over.
Paint a thin layer of chocolate over the entire sugar cone.

Use decorator icing to draw a circle like a hatband. Place M&Ms around the icing.
