Valentine’s Day Floam Slime
We like to celebrate the holidays as much as we can in our house and that means making fun and creative activities and crafts for the kids to have fun with. We also love slime so the perfect way to have slime fun is to make a Valentine’s Day versions of slime!
My favorite part about making slime is that it is a great activity to do with kids and is total fun all the time. From making the slime to then playing with it it is hands on and fun for small children with the whole process.

You can then let the kids be creative when playing with the slime and I know my kids love playing with crunchy slime and the noises that it makes when they are playing with it. Slime is great for sensory play and you can let the kids use small toys to play with the slime as well to make it even more fun.
Making slime and playing with slime has provided hours of fun for my kids, even the older kids still enjoy making slime and playing with slime.

What is Floam?
Floam slime is a slime-like substance that along with being stretchy has tiny styrofoam balls mixed into it giving it a fun texture that the kids love to play with. It is making the loved slime even more fun to play with and create.
Tips for Making Floam
Use the best glue. To make this floam slime you are going to want to use Elmer’s Clear Glue. Making slime with clear glue is easy, it is just like making slime with white glue, but we find that using clear glue to make this floam slime is better than using the white glue.
Stock up on glue. I suggest if you plan on making a lot of slime, then do yourself a favor and grab a gallon of glue! It ends up being a LOT cheaper then buying the 4 ounce bottles. I grab mine on Amazon here and make sure we always have a good supply of slime supplies on hand.
If you are struggling with your slime recipes and they are not getting the super stretchiness that you are wanting make sure you check out how to make stretchy slime. That slime recipe is SUPER stretchy and you can add floam Styrofoam beads to that slime recipe as well as the slime recipe below.

What contact Solution is best for Slime?
When making slime with contact solution you do not need to use an expensive contact solution. Any brand of contact solution will work to make slime. We personally use the cheap Equate contact solution to make slime. I grab the 4 pack on Amazon and it lasts us quite a while in our slime making adventures.
Can I color this slime recipe?
Yes! If you would like to add colors to this floam recipe all you need to do is add a little bit of washable paint in the color that you want (since this is Valentine’s day themed i would go with purple, pink, or red) after you have mixed the baking soda and glue together. You can also use food coloring to change the color of the slimes when making them but I prefer to use washable paint when making slime with kids.

The Science behind making slime
While slime is a fun activity to do with the kids it is also a science experiment. It is actually ALL science that makes slime actually work when you are making it.
Slime is the end result when there is the correct ratio of polymers to borate ions. To make slime you need both polymers and ions. Most slime recipes are based on a reaction between the polymers in glue and the borate ions in Borax, saline solution, or starch. At times there are additional items added to give different textures to the slime, but the basic chemical reaction to get slime is the same.

How to Store Floam Slime
When you are done making your floam slime, store it in an airtight container or a ziploc bag. When you go to play with it again you may find a little bit of liquid in the container too. Just mix the liquid back into the slime with your hands.
Will floam dry out?
As long as your floam is stored in an airtight container it will not dry out. If it does dry out you can add some more.
How to Make Floam Slime Stretchy again
If you are wanting to make it super stretchy after it has been stored in an airtight container, place it in warm water for 30 seconds to clean it up and get it stretchy again.
