What is Edible Finger Paint
Edible finger paint is simply finger paint that is safe to eat. It is made with ingredients that are edible, non-toxic and things that you already cook or bake with in your kitchen. It means, you don’t have to worry about your kids getting sick when they keep sticking their fingers in their mouth and ingest some of the paint. This type of finger paint is perfect for young children and little kids who are still exploring the world and put everything in their mouth.
Is it Really Edible?
Yes, it is! These finger paints are made with ingredients that you already have in your kitchen. This paint is taste safe and perfectly ok if the kids put it in their mouth however it is not snack like edible. With little kids we like to teach them what is ok to put in their mouth and what is not so while this is safe for them to eat it does not taste tasty as to discourage children from putting paint in their mouths.

Is it Easy to Make Edible Finger Paint?
Making your own edible finger paint is actually very simple. All you need are some basic kitchen ingredients and a few minutes of your time. The paints are also very inexpensive to make, so you can save some money by making them at home. Plus, you can tailor the colors to your own liking and what you have on hand.
How to Store Edible Finger Paint
Once you’ve made your edible finger paints, you’ll need to store them in an airtight container. Mason jars work well for this. You can also reuse old containers that have a tight fitting lid. Just make sure to wash them out well first.
You’ll want to store the finger paints in the fridge, and they will last for about a week. So if you’re not planning on using them right away, you can make a big batch and then have them on hand for when the mood strikes.

Tips for Making Homemade Finger Paint
Pick your colors ahead of time. You can make the paint any color that you want to, you will be splitting the large batch of homemade paint into the smaller amounts and coloring them each but to make things easier know which colors you want to make ahead of time.
Allow the paint to cool completely. It is important that the paint cools completely to room temperature before using it to paint not only for how it will work when using it but also to make sure it is not to hot for the kids when they use it.
The right consistency is important. When you are cooking the paint mixture on the stove it will thicken up as you cook it. You want the consistency and texture of the paint to be a custard-like consistency before removing it from the stove.
Paint on paper. You can use this homemade paint on regular paper or finger paint paper.
Food coloring. You can use gel food coloring, liquid food coloring or natural food coloring and use as much food coloring as you want to for how bright you want the paint to be.

How does finger painting work?
Finger painting is a simple activity that is great for kids and easy to do. All they have to do is dip their fingers into the paint and then using fingers to create objects & shapes on a piece of paper.
What is the best paper to use when finger painting?
Any paper will work but a thicker paper is better because little kids tend to add globs of paint and that will help it from soaking thru the paper.
